Emergencies don't give warnings—and in those first few minutes, your actions can make all the difference.

Whether it's a heart attack, accident, stroke, or sudden breathing difficulty, knowing what to do before reaching the hospital can save a life.

At Medlyfe Hospitals, our 24x7 Emergency and Critical Care team handles hundreds of cases each month—from trauma to cardiac events to pediatric emergencies. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to act during a medical emergency before professional help arrives.

1. Stay Calm and Assess the Situation

The first step in any emergency is to take a deep breath and stay as calm as possible. Panic leads to delay and confusion.

  • Check if the person is responsive
  • See if they're breathing, bleeding, or in visible pain
  • Look for signs of consciousness, pulse, or choking
  • If you're unsure what you're dealing with, don't guess—treat it as a potential emergency and act

2. Call the Emergency Helpline Immediately

In Hyderabad, dial 108 for state ambulance services. But for faster, hospital-directed care, call Medlyfe's 24x7 Emergency Line.

When calling:

  • State your location clearly
  • Mention symptoms or condition
  • Share age/gender and any known medical history
  • Ask for an ACLS ambulance if it's a cardiac, unconscious, or trauma case

3. Common Emergency Scenarios – What to Do Immediately

Heart Attack / Chest Pain

  • Make the person sit upright
  • Loosen tight clothing
  • If available, give 300mg of aspirin (unless allergic)
  • Call Medlyfe Emergency immediately
  • Do NOT delay, even if the pain seems mild

Stroke (F.A.S.T. Test)

  • F – Face drooping
  • A – Arm weakness
  • S – Speech slurred
  • T – Time to call hospital

Every minute counts—stroke treatment is time-sensitive.

Accidents / Head Injuries / Bleeding

  • Don't move the person if spinal injury is suspected
  • Apply pressure to stop bleeding
  • Keep the injured person awake
  • Avoid offering food or water

Child Emergency (High fever, seizure, choking)

  • Remove tight clothing
  • Keep the child on their side (if seizing)
  • For choking: attempt gentle back blows if trained
  • Call pediatric emergency line

Medlyfe has a dedicated Pediatric Emergency & PICU Unit.

4. Know Your Nearest Emergency-Ready Hospital

Choosing the right hospital during an emergency is critical. Medlyfe Hospitals – Bandlaguda Jagir is equipped for:

5. Prepare an Emergency Checklist for Your Family

  • Emergency contact numbers (family + hospital)
  • List of current medications/allergies
  • Known health conditions (diabetes, BP, asthma)
  • Blood group card
  • Medlyfe's emergency contact on speed dial
